Having just returned from Bennington Triumph Bash in Vermont, I can say that it was a blast riding in an area that I hadn't visited in many years on a motorcycle (more than 40), and putting a face onto all the usernames that I interact with on the forum(s).

I think there were about 70 or so Triumphs there, all from New England, NY, NJ & PA. I came up from Virginia; about 600 miles. I saw no licence tags from further out. There may have been some, but if there were, I didn't see them. My only point there is that it was a popular event, but not so much so to attract long distance travelers.

SO.... the Blue Ridge mountains are one of the prettiest riding areas in the country. Would there be enough interest in a similar event along the Blue Ridge Parkway for Mid-Atlantic & southern states; say in mid-September? Temps would start to cool down a bit, but not so much as to discourage northern riders from coming. Peak foliage here isn't until late October or even early November, so that's probably too late for many.

Chime in riders. Is there a preference on dates; earlier; later?

The ride may be fun, but in the Great Scheme of things, it really is about the destination! John 3:16

I'm interested. Always wanted to ride that area but haven't had a chance yet. Now that I'm getting along in years this is on my "Bucket List"

I'd love to, but my availability in Aug and Sep is very limited with a crap-ton of business travel coming up. That said, plan it out, and if I can somehow swing it, I'll make the trek. I'd keep it to before Peak Leaf Peeper Season, because I've heard the roads get loaded up with ill-prepared bikers, and poor drivers not paying attention to the roads!!!

Great meeting you, Bob!

I would have some interest. It would be a long haul for me but may be doable. Depends where exactly in the Blue ridge Mt it would be. May even consider bringing the bird down on a trailer.

Keep us updated on location and exact dates.

Thinking about Peaks of Otter Lodge (MM86) I spoke with the events manager today and although they'd offer a discount, it was not significant.
We could block a number of rooms, but they'd have to be paid NLT 30 days prior to the event or get offered to public.
As far as I recall, there are no other hotels on the BRP within Virginia.
Link
It's pricy, ($150/night) but very nice. Renovated within the last 3 years. Nice restaurant on site.
There are some less expensive hotels in town (Bedford), probably 15 miles (Super 8 - $65, Days Inn - $55)
Roanoke & Lynchburg about 45 minutes away each.
Date to be determined, but likely 3rd week in Sept, or 1st week in October. Still (usually) good weather here.
I also spoke with the Triumph dealer in Salem VA, and they will support it. There's another dealer in Harrisonburg that I haven't contacted yet.
I'll ask them to bring some bikes to demo, but I'd be surprised.

The "New England Riders" are developing some rides, etc., but this may help you out. Lots of recommendations on routes, hotels, restaurants, etc.

I'd definitely be interested. Late September before the leaves hit the ground would be good. What time do the foliage folks come out down there? Mid-October?

As long as we get in before that, it should be fine.

Peak foliage here is late October to early November. A wee bit earlier at higher elevations.

I would be interested. I'm actually doing the dragon and blue ridge in two weeks. Took a week off from work. Might be able to swing late September/October.

September is good for me and October quite iffy. Bob, never been down the pkwy but isnt it 100 miles of one road posted at 35 mph? I assume you have a plan for other roads along the Blue Ridge and/or correct me if I have it all wrong. After the pricey Paradise Inn I would be ok with flop house or flea bag accommodations if we can find any. As long as there is a beer and ice supply nearby.

Looking like Thursday to Saturday Sept 22 - 24 now. Prices for the Peaks of Otter Lodge jump $50/ night on last weekend in Sept/early Oct.
Skyline Drive is 35 MPH (and $15 to enter!)
BRP is 45 MPH (no entry fee). There are places to safely exceed that a bit, but it is patrolled regularly by Park Service Rangers.
Plenty of side trips off BRP. I have several routes in mind already.
Besides, if you've never ridden it before, that's fast enough because your eyes WILL wander off the road to take in the scenery!

Final details soon.
I'll also try to get with the other local hotels to work on a group discount.

STAY TUNED!!
Bob

Hotel prices start going up in October and leaves begin to fall, making roads potentially slippery, so.......

The First Annual Blue Ridge British Bike Rally (BRBBR) will be Friday & Saturday 9/23 & 24 2016.

Several nice rides of 200+- miles are planned out. Roads are good to excellent. Depending on how many show up, we may split into groups of similar riding styles; cruisers, dual sports & sport bikes. (We'll send out the sport bikes first to occupy all the police, and then head out. ;-)
Discounted rates are available at the three local places to stay from Thursday through Saturday nights 9/22/16 through 9/24/16. There are several B&B's in the area Link
First (and most expensive) is the Peaks of Otter Lodge, where BRBBR will be based. It is at MM86 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Rooms are discounted to $116.10 for Thursday night and $134.10 Friday & Saturday nights plus 10.3% tax. Rate is for one king or two double beds, so you can share a room and split the cost. Thirty rooms will be blocked, but for this rate, you'll need to book no later than 30 days prior (8/25/16). If you reserve and cannot make the trip, cancellation policy is 72 hours prior, or forfeiture of (1st night) deposit will result. Any other cancellation has a $15 fee. There is a restaurant and cafe on premises. Nearby campsites, picnicking and hiking. Friday night buffet is $20, daily morning breakfast buffets are $14, or order off the menu. It's a beautiful setting with recently renovated rooms.
WHEN RESERVING, USE BOOKING CODE 5A7334
Link (877) 636-6547

Second is Super8, on U.S. Rte. 460 just west of Bedford VA, It's 14 miles from the Peaks. Light breakfast included. Rate TBA.

Third is Days Inn across the road from Super 8. One king bed or 2 queen beds are $55.95 plus tax (1 or 2 people). Be sure to mention BRBBR for this rate. (I can't vouch for the rooms but at $56, don't expect luxury.) Breakfast included.

Bedford is about 15 miles and has good selection of eateries. Most fast food places, Ruby Tuesday's, Applebee's, and a bunch of small independents. Best in town is Liberty Station with many entrees in the $13 to $20 range; Great food. Lots of other independents; Mexican, Deli, Italian, Oriental.
The National D-Day Memorial is in Bedford, and is quite cool to visit. (Bedford VA lost more men per capita in the D-Day invasion than any other city in the US!)
BRBBR is about 5 hours from Baltimore, Harrisburg PA, Knoxville TN, and Columbia S.C.
BRBBR is about 10 hours from Jacksonville FL, Albany NY, Nashville TN

So far, sponsors are:
Frontline Eurosports, Salem VA Link Jack-Be-Quick Link

Bob

I hope to but will wait till later in the summer to commit. Be ready for the first rally to be small until it gets better known. Also, this may become more of a fall ride with those from the BTB (especially birders but all are welcome) that are looking for more riding opportunities as opposed to a recurring destination. Two years ago in the fall we rode north central PA, skipped last year, and now on to the Blue Ridge. Next year...who knows.

OK, but after 8/25, Peaks of Otter Lodge will open our blocked rooms to public.
There was no deadline at Days Inn. Still waiting to hear from Super 8. I'll touch base again tomorrow.

I'm thinking if there was one guy on the forum that I'd get to ask for an answer to a problem that I couldn't solve... it's Dave.

Yes, I'm booked at the Peaks of Otter Lodge. The group code that the rally is listed under is 5AA798. The other code they can't find in their system. Anyway I'll be there on Thursday evening for a couple of nights. Looking forward to riding with some of you guys,

Looks like a fun time, but, I prob wouldn't call this a "rally" as chances are there might only be a few people who actually follow thru and attend. Are you promoting this on any other forums or social media pages? I'll keep an eye on it. If it looks like it'll be well attended.. I may consider it too. Perhaps you should build a simple web page with info.. some photos.. etc. ? Perhaps even put up some potential ride routes?
